About the Department
The Department of Physics was established in the year 2015. The main objective of the Department is to help the students understand the role of Physics in Science and Society and to link Science with the Physical Phenomena and Current Events.

- Inauguration of Physics Department Vibrant Association activities for the Academic year 2023-2024 was organized with the Resource person Dr.P.Yasotha, Assistant Professor, Department of Physics, Sri Vasavi College, Erode on 01.08.2023. The Special Lecture was delivered on “Nuclear Hazards and Control Measures” by the resource person.
- Faculty Development Programme “Hands-on Workshop: Virtual Lab – Learners Perspective” was organized by the DBT Star Departments in association with Amrita Virtual Labs on 19.09.2023.
- Personality Development Programme was organized on “Upskill Yourself” under DBT star college scheme on 20.09.2023with a resource person Mr.T.P.Saravanan, Assistant Professor, Management Studies, Kongu Engineering College (Autonomous), Perundurai, Erode.
- One-day Academia Industry Interface Workshop on “Physics for Instrumentation” was organized under DBT Star College Scheme by the Department on 22.09.2023. The Resource person was Mr.G.K.ShanmugaSundaram, Technical Trainer, The Gemini Scientific Company, Chennai.
- A Guest lecture was organized on 06.10.2023 for the Physics Students in the topic “Development of device quality technologically important single crystals: Growth, Characterization and Applications” under DBT fund. The Resource Person was Dr.Muthu Senthil Pandian, Research Scientist (Grade- II),Photovoltaic Devices Laboratory, SSN Research Centre, SSN Institutions, Chennai.
- Extension activity was carried out in tune with “World Energy Conservation Day 2023” by the Department on 14.12.2023. Awareness to the school children on electricity usage at home and schools was provided to the students of Government Higher Secondary School, Kumalankuttai. Also LED bulbs were distributed as a part of awareness.
- Inter-Departmental Competitions Pencil Sketching, Photography and Video Content making on Energy Management were conducted from 14.12.2023 to 16.12.2023.
- One Day Skill Development Training on “Electronic Circuits Design and Development” was organized on 20.12.2023 with the Trainer from Thilagavathi Electronics, Erode for the Physics department students under DBT fund.
- The Department handled Lecture sessions and rendered Training on Physics Practical in the Physics Laboratory to the School Teachers for the TNSCST sponsored In-service Training for the Government School Teachers on 09.01.2024.
- Special Lecture on “Science of Nuclear Power” with the Resource Person Dr.Daniel Chellappa, Eminent Nuclear Scientist, Chennai was organized on 08.01.2024. Physics and Biotechnology department students got benefited.
- Two Days Hands-on Workshop on “Fabrication of Solar Cells” was organized with the Trainer Mr.G.K.Shanmuga Sundaram, The Gemini Scientific Company, Chennai on 22.01.2024 & 23.01.2024.
- Academia Industry Interface Program on “Embedded System using Arduino” on 30.01.2024 with Technical Trainers from Mighty Electronics Equipments Corporation, Coimbatore.
- One Day workshop on “Nanotechnology Laboratory Practices” to the Physics students was organized on 19.02.2024 with a Resource Person Dr.S.Allimalarkodi, Associate Professor, Erode College of Pharmacy, Erode.
- Guest Lecture Program was organized with a Resource Person Dr.S.Prabhu, Post-Doctoral Fellow in Chemistry, Bar Ilan University, Ramat Gun, Israel on “Hybrid Supercapacitors” under DBT star college scheme for the Physics Students on 21.02.2024.
- National Science Day was celebrated by the DBT Star Departments on 28.02.2024 by organizing various competitions in association with KASC Science Forum under DBT Star College Scheme. Physics Department conducted a Logo Designing competition entitled “Think Science…Think Peace…”
- Inauguration of Physics Department Vibrant Association activities for the Academic year 2022-2023 was organized in association with Mathematics Department on 18.08.2022. Orientation was given to the first year students with the Resource persons Jc. A.Dhanavel, Founder, Head Coach, GurU+ Transformation centre, Tuition Training Counselling, Erode and Capt.Dr.P. Gowthaman, Associate Professor of Electronics, Erode Arts and Science College, Erode.
- Guest Lecture was organized on “Polymorphism in Material Science” under DBT star college scheme on 23.09.2022 with a resource person Dr. P. Dhanasekaran, Assistant Professor of Physics, School of Distance Education, Bharathiar University, Coimbatore.
- Two day National level workshop on “EAT, CNA & SNA IN PFMS E-GOVERNANCE” was organized under DBT Star College Scheme by the DBT Departments on 06.10.2022 & 7.10.2022. Resource persons were Dr. S. Francis, Senior Accounts Officer, Ministry of Finance, Govt. of India PFMS, New Delhi and Dr. S. Mehalingham, PFMS Nodal Officer, V.H.N.Senthikumara Nadar College (Autonomous), Virudhunagar.
- Field visit to Traco cable, Kochi, Kerala was arranged to III & II B.Sc., Physics students on 10.10.2022
- Orientation Program for the First Year UG students of Star departments under DBT star college scheme was organized on 20.10.2022 with a resource person Ms. Meera Natarajan, Mentor and Neurolinguistics, Programming Trainer, Pune.
- One day skill development training on Electronic circuits “Design and Do” was conducted on 31.10.2022 with trainers from Thilagavathi Electronics, Erode for the III & II B.Sc., Physics students under DBT fund.
- In view of celebration of birth anniversary of Noble Laureate Sir C.V.Raman, Poster Making Competition “Innovation starts with me” was conducted to KASC students by the department of physics in association with KASC science forum on 07.11.2022
- Extension activity “E-waste Management” was carried out jointly by the Departments of Physics and Computer science on 10.11.2022. E-waste of 20 kg was collected in and around Erode and the same was handed over to Olirum Erode Foundation.
- One Day Skill Development Training on “Arduino IDE and Sensors” by Technical Trainers from Mighty Electronics Equipments Corporation, Coimbatore was organized on 04.01.2023 for our III B.Sc., Physics students under DBT fund.
- Extension Activity in Association with NSS was arranged for the School students of Germalam on 09.01.2023. All the DBT Department students rendered their services to the School Children and Physics students conducted an activity on “Joy of Learning Science” under DBT fund.
- Extension Activity on “Master Physics Learning” was organized to the Students of Government Higher Secondary School, Thindal on 31.01.2023 under DBT fund.
- Two Days Skill Development Training on “Fixing Mobile Phone Issues” was organized under DBT Star College Scheme in association with New Technology Mobile Service and Training Institute, Coimbatore for the Value Added Course (Electronics for Everyone) students of various departments on 16.02.2023 & 17.02.2023.
- National Science Day was celebrated on 28.02.2023 by organizing various competitions in association with KASC Science Forum under DBT Star College Scheme. Physics Department conducted a Logo Creation competition entitled “Science, Technology and Global Well-being”
- A Guest lecture was organized on 03.03.2023 for the Physics Students in the topic “Nanoscience – Scope and Career Opportunities” under DBT fund. The Resource Person was Dr. K.Sakthipandi, Professor and Research Coordinator, SRM TRP Engineering College, Tiruchirappalli.
- Industrial visit to Solar Observatory, Kodaikanal was arranged to B.Sc., & M.Sc., Physics students on 08.03.2023 under DBT fund.
- Academia Industry Interface Workshop on “Robotics” was arranged to our Physics Students on 10.03.2023 with the Resource Person Ms. Sowmiya Santhanam, Founder and CEO, Seventh Sense School of Robotics, Erode under DBT fund.
- Five days Faculty Development Programme "Advancing Towards Sustainable Teaching and Learning Pedagogy" for the faculty members of various Institutions was organized by the DBT Departments from 01.08.2021 to 06.08.2021. Renowned persons acted as Resource persons and addressed the gathering
- Induction Programme entitled "Technology & Science – A Boon or Bane" was organized to the first year students of DBT departments on 08.09.2021 under DBT star college scheme. - Vibrant Association Activities for the year 2021-2022 was Inaugurated by Thiru. K.PALANISAMY and a Special lecture on "Future Avenues for Physicists" was arranged by the Resource Person Dr.D.Senthilkumar, Associate Professor & Head, Department of Physics, School of Sciences & Humanities, Vel Tech (Deemed to be University), Chennai on 27.09.2021
- DBT sponsored Guest lecture on "Renewable Energy Sources" was organized to the Physics students on 01.10.2021. Resource person was Dr.P.Maadeswaran, Assistant Professor, Department of Energy Science, Periyar University, Salem
- Extension activity was carried out jointly by the Departments of Physics and Computer science on 21.10.2021. E-waste of 27 kg was collected in and around Erode and the same was handed over to Olirum Erode Foundation
- Interdisciplinary Workshop on "Project Based Learning with MATLAB" with the Resource person Dr.S.Hariharan, Assistant Professor, Dwaraka Doss Goverdhan Doss Vaishnav College, Chennai was organized by the Departments of Physics, Mathematics and Biochemistry under DBT Star College Scheme for the B. Sc Physics, Biochemistry and Mathematics students on 28.10.2021 & 29.10.2021.
- One day Interdisciplinary Workshop on "PCB Soldering for Fabrication of Electronic Circuits" was conducted on 09.11.2021 for the Students of Physics (25), Mathematics (5), CS (7) and CTIT (5) II B.Sc., Physics students under DBT fund with Thilagavathi Electronics, Erode.
- Intramural Competitions "Accelerate" was organized by the III B.Sc., Physics students to the I & II Physics students on 17.11.2021. Various competitions such as Physics Alphabets, Quiz, Connexion, Puzzle, Challenging the Challenge and Drawing were organized and winners were awarded with certificates
- Two days Inter Disciplinary Capacity Building Programme on 22.11.2021 and 23.11.2021 was organized in association with Mathematics Department on "Aptitude Made Easy" with the Trainer Mr.N.Loganathan, Managing Director, Mullai Academy, Karur. Physics and Mathematics students participated and benefited through this programme
- Field visit was arranged by the Department to "Kongu FM Centre" for the II B. Sc., Physics students on 01.12.2021. Students acquired knowledge on recording and broadcasting process in detail
- Commemoration of World Energy Conservation Day was celebrated with IDP Special lecture "Energy Conservation-Integral Part of Human Lives" on 14.12.2021 to the Students of Physics, Biotechnology and Mathematics. Dr. Prawin Angel Michael, Associate Professor, Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Karunya Institute of Technology and Sciences, Coimbatore was arranged as Resource person.
- Extension Activity on the World Energy Conservation Day 14.12.2021 was carried out with the Awareness Programme on Energy Conservation by distributing LED bulbs to PUPS Kathirampatti Primary School, Kathirampatti.
- A Two Day Skill Development Training on "Functional Components of Mobile Phone" was conducted by the Department of Physics in association with New Technology, Coimbatore under DBT Star College Scheme for the II B. Sc Physics and Mathematics students on 23.12.2021 & 24.12.2021
- Interdisciplinary DBT sponsored Guest Lecture was organized by the Physics, Biochemistry and Biotechnology Departments on "Accelerate Your Career" to the I B. Sc., Physics, Biochemistry & Biotechnology students on 08.01.2022 by the Resource person Dr. V. Sudha, Post Doctoral Fellow, Department of Bioelectronic and Biosensor, Alagappa University, Karaikudi
- Faculty Development Programme "Implementation of Outcome Based Curriculum Framework" for the KASC faculty members was organized by the DBT star Departments in association with OBE Monitoring Committee from 27.01.2022. Renowned persons acted as Resource persons and addressed the gathering
- One day Workshop on "Implementation of IoT using Arduino" was conducted on 24.02.2022 for the III B.Sc., Physics students under DBT fund with Trainers, Mighty Electronics Equipments Corporation, Coimbatore.
- National Science Day was celebrated on 28.02.2022 by organizing various competitions in association with KASC Science Forum under DBT Star College Scheme.
- A webinar was organized on "Roadmap for Research Project in Physics" with the Resource person Mr. M.Senthilkumar, Assistant Professor of Physics, Srinivasan College of Arts and Science (Affiliated Bharathidasan University), Perambalur on 12.04.2022. III B. Sc., Physics participated and gained knowledge on execution of projects.
- Industrial visit to LeePra Technologies Pvt Ltd, Mysooru was arranged to III B.Sc., Physics students on 10.05.2022.
- DBT sponsored Webinar on "Smart Materials" was organized to the students of II & III year Physics on 20.05.2020. Resource person was Dr.C.Rengasami, Associate Professor, Department of Physics, Kongu Engineering College, Perundurai.
- Vibrant Association Activities for the year 2020-2021 was Inaugurated by Thiru. K.PALANISAMY and a Special lecture was arranged by the Resource Person Dr.V.Anbarasu, Associate Professor, Department of Physics, PSG College of Arts & Science, Coimbatore on 24.07.2020

- A Talk on "Colours of Life" was delivered to the I UG Physics students on 25.08.2020 during the Orientation Program by Dr.V.Anbumani, Associate Professor, Department of Hindi & Other Languages from Kongu Arts and Science College (Autonomous), Erode.

- DBT sponsored Guest Lecture on "Application of Magnetic Materials" was conducted to the II & III B.Sc., Physics students on 06.11.2020 by the Resource person Dr. T.P. Sumangala, Assistant Professor, Department of Physics, School of Advanced Sciences, Vellore Institute of Technology, Vellore.
- One day National Seminar on "Emerging Technologies in Energy Devices and Functional Biomaterials" was organized under DBT Fund on 21.12.2020 with the Resource Persons Dr. P. Elumalai, Professor & Head, Department of Green Energy Technology, Madanjeet School of Green Energy Technologies, Pondicherry University, Puducherry and Dr. Sarath Chandra Veerla, Associate Professor, Godavari Institute of Engineering and Technology (Autonomous), Rajahmundry, Andhra Pradesh.
- An Interdisciplinary Guest lecture was conducted in the topic "Astronomical Discoveries" to our B.Sc., Physics students & I B.Sc., Mathematics Students on 01.02.2021 by Dr.Ebenezer Chellasamy Edwin, Resident Scientist, Indian Institute of Astrophysics, Kodaikanal under DBT Star College Scheme Fund.
- Faculty Development Programme "Outcome Based Education" for the faculty members of KASC was organized by DBT Departments on 20.02.2021 and the Resource person Dr.M.G.Sethuraman, Professor, Department of Chemistry, Gandhigram Rural Institute, Dindugal.

- One day Workshop on "Electronic Components and Measurements" was conducted on 19.03.2021 for the I B.Sc., Physics students under DBT fund with Thilagavathi Electronics, Erode.
- Workshop on "Digital Storage Oscilloscope and Applications" was organized by Service Engineer Mr.S.P. Senthil Subramaniam, Mighty Electronics Equipments Corporation, Coimbatore on 20.03.2021 to the I B.Sc., Physics students under DBT star college scheme fund
- Virtual Guest lecture was organized on "Fundamentals of Electricity for Physicists" on 22.03.2021 to the B.Sc., Physics students under DBT star college scheme and Dr.P.Sathya, Assistant Professor, Salem Sowdeswari College, Salem acted as a Resource person
- National Virtual Seminar on "Nanotechnology and its Applications" was jointly organized by Physics, Biochemistry and Biotechnology departments on 29.03.2021. Resource persons were Prof.R.Ramaraj, Professor of Eminence & DAE Raja Ramanna Fellow (Prof. & Head(Retd.), Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai, Dr.V.Subramanian, Chief Scientist & Head, CSIR – Central Leather Research Institute, Chennai and Dr.V.Veena, Assistant Professor, Department of Biotechnology, Rava University, Bangalore.
- Faculty Development Programme cum Hands-on workshop on MATLAB was jointly organized by Physics, Mathematics and Computer Science departments for the faculty members on 08.06.2019 under DBT Star College Scheme.
- Orientation Programme was organized by all the five DBT departments for the First year students of DBT departments on 28.06.2019 under DBT Star College Scheme. Resource persons were Dr. R Rajendran, Associate Professor, Department of Microbiology, PSG College of Arts & Science, Coimbatore and Dr. R Parvathi, Associate Professor and Head, Department of Mathematics, Vellalar College for Women, Erode.
- Inauguration of Physics VIBRANT association activities for the academic year 2019-2020 was inaugurated and a special lecture was delivered by Dr.B.Nalini, Assistant Professor, Department of Physics, Avinashilingam Institute for Home Science and Higher Education for Women (Deemed University), Coimbatore – 641 018 on 04.07.2019.
- Our III B. Sc., Physics students attended a workshop in "Advanced Experimental Physics" on 12.07.2019 during their laboratory visit to Sri Ramakrishna Mission Vidhyalaya College of Arts and Science, Coimbatore.
- Two days Hands on Training on 'Physics Laboratory – an Overview' was conducted on 26.07.2019 & 29.07.2019 for the I B.Sc., Physics students under DBT fund.
- In view of celebration of International year of Periodic Table, a Guest Lecture was arranged by Physics, Biochemistry and Biotechnology departments on 19.08.2019 under DBT sponsored fund to the First year students of Physics, Biochemistry and Biotechnology. The resource persons were Dr. N. Chandra Sekara, Retired Professor, CBM College, Coimbatore and Dr. A. Chandramohan, Head, Department of Chemistry, Ramakrishna College of Arts and Science College, Coimbatore.
- A Guest Lecture Programme was organized on "Application of Physics in Medicine" by Dr. C S Sureka, Assistant Professor, Department of Medical Physics, Bharathiar University, Coimbatore on 20.08.2019 for our First year students under DBT Star College Scheme.
- Industrial visit was planned to our II B.Sc., Physics and III B. Sc., Physics students under DBT Star College Scheme to Visvesvaraya Industrial and Technological Museum, Bangalore on 22.08.2019.
- DBT departments jointly organized "Science Fest" to the school students on 27.08.2019 under DBT Star college scheme.
- A Workshop on "Smartphone Troubleshooting" was conducted by the department of Physics in association with New Technology, Coimbatore under DBT Star College Scheme for the III B. Sc Physics, Mathematics and Computer Science students as an interdisciplinary programme on 16.09.2019 & 17.09.2019.
- "Accelerate" - Intra departmental competitions (Quiz, Spell Bee, Scrambled words, Inventions and Inventors) were conducted on 19.09.2019
- A Guest Lecture Programme was organized on "Statistical Physics" by Dr.S.S.Naina Mohammed, Assistant Professor, Department of Physics, Government Arts College, Udumalpet on 26.09.2019 under DBT fund and all the students of Physics department attended the lecture.
- Extension Activity was arranged in our college Physics Laboratory on 04.10.2019 to the school students on HSC level Practicals for XI and XII students of Government Higher Secondary School, Thindal under DBT Star College Scheme.
- As a part of Extension Activity, 27th District Level National Children Science Congress was jointly organized by DBT departments on 04.11.2019 and School students presented their projects.
- A Motivational Talk by Dr. A. Velumani, Promoter, Chairman, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Thyrocare, Mumbai was arranged on "Focus, Learn, Grow and Enjoy" by Physics, Biochemistry and Biotechnology departments on 19.12.2019 to First year students under DBT sponsored fund.
- A Guest Lecture Programme was organized on "A Glimpse on Quantum Mechanics" by Dr.N.Shanmugam, Assistant Professor, Department of Physics, Dharma Puram Gnanambigai Arts College for Women, Mayiladuthurai on 20.12.2019 to the students of Physics department under DBT fund.
- A special lecture on "Emerging Trends in Computational Chemistry" organized by Physics, Biochemistry and Biotechnology departments on 21.01.2020 under DBT fund. The Resource person was Dr.Perumal, Retired Professor, Department of Chemistry, Erode Arts and Science College (Autonomous), Erode and the first year students of Physics, Biochemistry and Biotechnology departments took part in the programme.
- Field visit was arranged for our II B.Sc., Physics students under DBT star college scheme to G D Naidu Museum, Coimbatore on 01.02.2020.
- Awareness on "Electricity conservation and safety measures" to Kathirampatti village people and the children of Panchayat Union Primary School, Kathirampatti on 16.02.2020 by our students.
- A Guest Lecture will be conducted on 17.02.2020 in the field of "Societal Applications of Radiation & Radioactivity" by Mr.R.Mathiyarasu, SO/G Head, Radiological and Biological Dosimetry Section (RBDS), Radiological and Environmental Safety Division, Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research, Kalpakkam to I & II B.Sc., Physics students under DBT fund.
- Industrial visit is planned to our I B.Sc., Physics students under DBT Star College Scheme to Indian Institute of Astrophysics, Kodaikkanal on 21.02.2020.
- A state level interdisciplinary seminar jointly organized by Physics and Mathematics departments will be held on 24.02.2020 in the title "Mathematical Physics and Quantum Matters" under DBT Star College Scheme. Resource persons are Dr. L. Senthilkumar, Professor, Bharathiar University, Coimbatore, Dr. Srinivasa Rao Manam, Professor, IIT, Chennai and Dr. R.Sivaraj, Senior Asst. Professor, School of Advanced Sciences, VIT, Vellore.
- Skill development training programme was conducted on 25.06.2018 for the III B.Sc., Physics students on "Basic Lab Equipments".
- Orientation Programme for the First Year B. Sc Physics Students was organized on 18.07.2018 by ABLE Training Organization, Erode on "Soft Skill Training".
- Inauguration of Physics VIBRANT association activities for the academic year 2018-2019 was inaugurated by Dr.L.Usha, Former Professor & Head, Department of Physics, Vellalar College for Women (Autonomous), Erode on 27.07.2018 and the special lecture was delivered on "Bioluminescence".
- A Workshop on "Mobile Refurbishing" was conducted for the III B. Sc Physics Students on 04.09.2018 & 05.09.2018 by New Technology, Coimbatore.

- An awareness programme "Need of Ethics in Human values" was organized for our I B.Sc Physics students on 22.09.2018 by Dr.N.Kalaivani, Associate Professor & Head, Department of Tamil, Kongu Arts and Science College (Autonomous), Erode.
- A Workshop on "Photoshop" was conducted for the III B. Sc Physics Students on 04.02.2019 by Mr. R.Gopalakrishnan, Assistant Professor & Head, Department of Computer Applications, Kongu Arts and Science College (Autonomous), Erode.
- A Guest Lecture was conducted on 15.02.2019 in the field of "Nanoscience and its Applications" by Dr. A. Kingson Solomon Jeevaraj, Assistant Professor, Department of Physics, LRG Government Arts College for Women, Tirupur.
- Personality Development Programme for the III B.Sc Physics students will be organized on 19.02.2019 by Dr. V.N.Vijayakumar, Assistant Professor, Department of Physics, Bannari Amman Institute of Technology, Sathyamangalam.
- Extension Activity will be arranged on 20.02.2019 to the school students of Government Higher Secondary School, Kumalankuttai on "Guidance to Conserve Energy" and also a presentation will be carried out to create awareness on "Green World".
- Skill development training programme was conducted on 21.06.2017 for the III B.Sc., Physics students on "Basic Lab Equipments".
- Inauguration of Physics VIBRANT association was held on 07.07.2017 and an Orientation Programme for the First Year B. Sc Physics Students was organized on the same day through ABLE Training Organization, Erode.
- "Accelerate" - Intra departmental competitions (Quiz, Spell Bee, Scrambled words, Inventions and Inventors) were conducted on 16.08.2017
