Department of Mathematics
About the Department
The Department of Mathematics has registered a steady growth, right from the inception in 1994, strictly adhering the goals of the College. Now the Department consists of around 150 students both in UG and PG programmes. The Department is functioning with 10 well qualified faculty members. The Department also offers M-Phil (Full time/Part time) and Ph.D (Full time/Part time) Programmes. Apart from these regular programmes, The department is offering two value added courses Vedic Mathematics and Mathematics for Competitive Examinations. In addition to teaching, the faculty members are actively engaged in research and development activities. The thrust areas of research include Graph Theory, Fuzzy Mathematics and Differential Equations. The department of Mathematics is one among the five departments recognized and funded under the Star College Scheme by DBT, Govt. of India, New Delhi. The Star department is organizing various activities under DBT star college scheme.

- The department is guiding and encouraging the students to present papers in state and national level seminars, conferences etc.,
- Ramanujan Association & Math Club activities for the academic year 2024 - 2025 were inaugurated on 26.07.2024. The chief guest Dr. T. Asir, Associate Professor, Ramanujan School of Mathematical Sciences, Pondicherry University, Puducherry addressed students about the benefits of higher studies and research in Mathematics.
- As an Extension Activity, Our Mathematics Department Students taught the concept of “Learning with Math Tools” using Abacus, Math Models and Charts at Panchayat Union Primary school, Kathirampatti, Erode on 29.08.2024. Our students conducted the event and donated Math related charts and stationery items.
- The Department has organized Two Days Workshop on “LaTeX for Technical Writing”, for UG & PG Mathematics students on 11th and 12th September, 2024, has been conducted by the Resource person, Dr. A.Sebastian Selvaraj, Assistant Professor, Govt. Arts and Science College, Vedasandur, Dindigul.
- A Guest Lecture Programme on “Applications of Real Analysis” was conducted on 25.09.2024. Dr.M.Marudai, Honorary Professor, School of Mathematical Sciences, Bharathidasan University, Tiruchirappalli was the resource person.
- Anti-Drug Committee in Association with Department of Mathematics Cordially invite you for the Seminar on “Socio-Economic Impact of Drug Addiction” was conducted on 05.10.2024. Mr.S.Nesamani, Advocate, Perundurai was the resource person.
- An Alumni Interaction Programme on "Opportunities in IT Industry" was conducted on 24.07.2023. Our Alumnus, Mr.S.Dhanush, System Engineer, Infosys Limited, Mysore interacted with the students and briefed about the IT opportunities and the ways of getting the opportunity.
- Ramanujan Association & Math Club activities for the academic year 2023 - 2024 were inaugurated on 31.07.2023. The chief guest Jc.Dr.J.Deenathayalan, Principal, Gandhi Arts and Science College, Sathyamangalam addressed students about the benefits of higher studies and research in Mathematics.
- Department of Mathematics and Department of Biotechnology were jointly organized Orientation Programme for I B.Sc Mathematics and I-B.Sc Biotechnology students on 08.08.2023. The sessions were handled by Mr.L.Jagadesh and JFM K.Madhumitha, National Trainer, and JCI India.
- The Department has organized Two Days Workshop on “LaTeX for Technical Writing”, for I-M.Sc. (Mathematics) & II-M.Sc. (Mathematics) students on 7th and 8th September, 2023, has been conducted by the Resource person, Dr. A.Sebastian Selvaraj, Asst.Prof., Govt. Arts and Science College, Vedasandur, Dindigul.
- The department has organized A Two Day Workshop on "Introduction to MATLAB Programming" Simple Numerical Computations, Analyses and Graphics in Matlab Environment , for III-B.Sc. (Mathematics) & I-M.Sc. (Mathematics) students on 13th and 14th September, 2023, has been conducted by the Resource person, Dr. V. Parthiban, Assistant Professor, Grade-2, VIT University, Chennai.
- The department has organized A Two Day Workshop on "Math with Python" Simple Numerical Computations, Analyses and Graphics in Python Environment, for I-M.Sc. (Mathematics) & II-M.Sc. (Mathematics) students on 15th and 16th December, 2023, conducted by the Resource person was Mr. M. Karuppusamy, Assistant Professor, Bannari Amman Institute of Technology, Sathyamangalam.
- A Guest Lecture Programme on “Application of Number Theory” was conducted under DBT Star College Scheme on 18.12.2023. Dr.M.Syed Ali, Assistant professor, Thiruvalluvar University, Vellore was the resource person.
- 136th Birth Anniversary of Srinivasa Ramanujan celebrated as Ramanujan Day on 22.12.2023. Various competitions were conducted through online for the students to exhibit their talents in Mathematics. A special talk on National Mathematics Day Special Lecture was given by Dr.K.Mathiyalagan, Assistant Professor, Department of Mathematics, Bharathiar University, Coimbatore to motivate the students.
- An Outreach Activity was carried out under DBT Star College Scheme on, “Arithmetic with ABACUS” at Panchayat Union Primary school, Nasiyanur, Erode on 10.01.2024. Our students conducted the event and donated Math related charts and stationery items.
- A Guest Lecture Programme on “Data Analytics using Machine Learning” was conducted under DBT Star College Scheme on 09.02.2024. Dr.M.Prakash, Assistant Professor Grade 2, VIT University, Vellore was the resource person.
- The department has organized workshop on "Software System for Type Setting Document" for I-M.Sc. (Mathematics) & II-M.Sc. (Mathematics) students on 16.02.2024 conducted by the Resource person was Dr.V.Parthiban, Assistant Professor, Grade 2, VIT University, Chennai.
- The department has organized IDP workshop on "Data Analysis with IBM SPSS" for Mathematics students & other department students on 22.02.2024 by the Resource person Dr.S.Mohan Prabhu, Assistant Professor & Head, Department of Statistics, Muthayammal College of Arts and Science, Rasipuram.
- A National Seminar on "Recent Trends in Discrete Mathematics" was organized by Department of Mathematics on 28.02.2024. Dr.T.Tamizh Chelvam, CSIR Emeritus Scientist, Formerly Senior Professor of Mathematics, Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, Tirunelveli and Dr.T.Asir, Associate Professor, Ramanujan School of Mathematical Sciences, Pondicherry University, Puducherry served as the Resource Persons.
- Tobacco awareness Human chain from Veppampalayam to Mettukadai was organized on 13.08.2022. Principal Dr.N.RAMAN & Mr.K.Madhubalan IAS, Deputy Collector of Erode District inaugurated the programme.
- Ramanujan Association Activities inauguration and orientation programme for I year students was conducted on 18.08.2022. Jc.A.DHANAVEL, Founder – Head Coach, GurU+ Transformation Centre, Tuition Training counseling, Erode and Capt.Dr.P.GOWTHAMAN, Associate Professor,Department of Electronics, Erode Arts and Science College were the resource persons.
- A two day national workshop on “ EAT, CAN & SNA IN PFMS” was conducted from 6.10.2022 to 07.10.2022. Mr. S.FRANCIS, Sr. Accounts Officer(Training and Capacity Building), Ministry of Finance, Govt. of India PFMS, New Delhi and Dr.P.Mehalingam, PFMS Nodal Officer, V.H.N. Senthilkumara Nadar College(Autonomous), Virudhunagar were the resource persons.
- An Alumni interaction Programme on “Software Opportunities for Mathematics Students” was conducted on 14.10.2022 by our Alumnus, Ms. N.Bharathipriya, CTS, Coimbatore.
- An industrial visit to was arranged at in Cochin for the students of the department on 10.10.2022 and 11.10.2022.
- A Seminar on “Research in Mathematics (Ways and Means) was conducted on 14.10.2022. Dr.G.NAGAMANI, Assistant professor, Department of Mathematics, The Gandhigram Rural Institute (Deemed to be University), Dindigul was the resource person.
- An Alumni interaction Programme on “Higher Studies in Abroad” was conducted 19.10.2022 by Mr. P.V.VISHWANATH, Alumnus, Internship at STUNITED COMMUNITY Interest Company, University of Greenwich, London.
- A student Orientation Programme on “Leading your Way to Achievement” was conducted under DBT Star college Scheme on 20.10.2022 for the first year Star department students. Ms. MEERA NATARAJAN, Educator, Mentor and NLP Trainer, Founder – Students Success Hub,Pune was the resource person.
- A two day Workshop on “Technical Documentation in Mathematics” was conducted under DBT Star College Scheme for the III B.Sc Mathematics Students from 27.10.2022 to 28.10.2022. Dr.A.SEBASTIAN SELVARAJ, Assistant Professor, Government Arts and Science College, Vedasandur, Dindigul was the resource person.
- A Guest Lecture Programme on “Application of Laplace Transforms” was conducted under DBT Star College Scheme on 28.10.2022. Dr.V.PARTHIBAN, Assistant professor, Grade 2, VIT University, Chennai was the resource person.
- An extension activity was carried out under DBT Star College Scheme on , “Basic Calculations through ABACUS” at Panchayat Union Primary school, Pitchandampalayam 31.10.2022. Our students conducted the event and donated Math related charts and stationery items.
- A Personality Development Programme on “Improving Ourselves” was organized for our Students on 27.12.2022 by Professor T.P.Saravanan, Corporate Realtions, Kongu Business School, Kongu Engineering College and Dr.R.Maheswari, Assistant Professor, Kongu Engineering College, Perundurai were the trainers.
- A Student Empoerment Programme was conducted under DBT Star College Scheme on 30.12.2022. Mr.J.Thangavel Raj, Corporate Trainer, Profile Trace, Erode was the resource person.
- 135th Birth Anniversary of Srinivasa Ramanujan celebrated as Ramanujan Day on 02.01.2023.Various competitions were conducted for the students to exhibit their talents in Mathematics. A special Lecture on “Ramanujan: A Wizard of Intuition” was given by Dr.J. Kannan, Assistant Professor, Department of Mathematics, Ayya Nadar Janaki Ammal College, Sivakasi to motivate the students.
- An outreach programme was conducted by the DBT star departments at Government High School, Germalam, Sathyamangalam Taluk of Erode district on “Knowledge Transformation and Skill Enhancement for Tribal Students” on 09.01.2023.
- A Workshop on “Mathematical Biology” was organized for the B.Sc Mathematics Students on24.01.2023 by Dr.M.Sambath, Assistant professor, Department of Mathematics, PeriyarUniversity, Salem under DBT Star College Scheme.
- A Workshop on “Graspable Maths” was organized for our B.Sc students on 09.02.2023 by Mr.S.Ganesh, National ICT Awardee, Graduate Teacher (BT), PUM School, Kilariyam Koradachery Block, Thiruvarur under DBT Star College Scheme.
- A Workshop on “Mathematical Tools” was organized for PG Assistant Government School Teachers, Erode District on 10.02.2023 by Mr.S.Ganesh, National ICT Awardee, Graduate Teacher (BT), PUM School, Kilariyam Koradachery Block, Thiruvarur under DBT Star College Scheme.
- A Skill Development Programme on “Problem Solving and Critical Thinking” was organized for our Students on 21.02.2023 by Mr.N.Loganathan, Managing Director, Mullai Academy, Karur was the resource person.
- A Workshop on “Cryptography” was organized for our students on 24.02.2023 by Dr.M.Syed Ali, Assistant Professor, Department of Mathematics, Thiruvalluvar University,Vellor under DBT Star College Scheme.
- An Academic Industry Interface Programme on “Exploring The Connection Between Mathematics and Software : Unlocking the Career Opportunities” was organized for our Students on 06.03.2023 by Mr. S.Ravi Sreyas, Software Developer, The Apex Grand Team, Coimbatore was the resource person.
- A Yoga Programme on “Yoga for Rest and Reset” was organized for our Students on 07.03.2023 by Ms.M.Umamahesh and Team Members, Manavalakalai Mandram, Erode were the trainers.
- An industrial visit to Anna Science Centre –Planetarium, Trichy is arranged for the students of our department accompanied by three faculty members on 10.03.2023.
- Our department staff members have attended Conferences, FDPs and Workshops and have published 5 papers in International Journals and acted as resource persons in other Institutions.
- Our Department 8 UG and 5 PG students are placed in various reputed IT companies.
- Our Final year PG students have completed NPTEL online course.
- Our Department students participated in various inter-college meets and won cash prizes in the conducted events, Also, students of our department won Overall Runner Championship at Vellalar College for Women Inter-College Meet.
- Our II B.Sc Mathematics students S.Ragul, S.Ramya and J Adity Verma participated in Online Foundation Course in Mathematics by MTTS from 16.10.2022 to 5.11.2022.
- Our III B.Sc Mathematics student K.A.Sanjay participated and won the title Mr.ELECT ERA in Mr &Ms.ELECT ERA event conducted by Coimbatore Institute of Technology from 18.05.2022 to 23.05.2022.
- Our II B.Sc Mathematics student V.A.Natarraj received Responsible Citizen Award given by Science Forum & DBT Star College Scheme.
- Our II B.Sc Mathematics student P.Madhumitha has published her Art work in the Children story Books “Kanavukkul Oru Kannamootchi” and “Thedi vandha Devangu”.
- Our III B.Sc Mathematics student B.Hariharan participated and won medal in the national Level EBSB NCC camp Conducted at Jansi, Uttar Pradesh.
- Our III B.Sc Mathematics student P.Keerthana has published her short story in the Saral magazine published by our Tamil Department.

- As an extension activity, II M.Sc Students taught the concept of Mathematics, donated the needy things, conducted games and distributed prizes for the children of Panchayat Union Primary School at Nanjanapuram, Erode on 01.11.2021.
- A two day Inter Disciplinary Capacity Building Programme on "Aptitude Made Easy" was organized for B.Sc Mathematics and B.Sc Physics students on 22.11.2021 – 23.11.2021 by Mr.N.Loganathan, Managing Director, Mullai Academy, Karur under DBT Star College Scheme.
- An Outreach activity was carried out on "Training Programme for School teachers on Usage of Smart Board and Teaching Mathematical Software Geogebra at Govt. High School Valayapalayam (Tribal area) Gobi " as a tribal welfare programme to the Tribal Students under DBT Star College Scheme on 01.12.2021. Also Sports and stationary things were donated for their Educational benefits.
- A Personality Development Programme on "Professional Ethics and Career Guidance" was organized for our Students on 03.12.2021 by Ms.Hemalatha and Dr.V.Umarani, Freelance Trainers, Coimbatore.
- 134th Birth Anniversary of Srinivasa Ramanujan celebrated as Ramanujan Day on 22.12.2021. Various competitions were conducted through online for the students to exhibit their talents in Mathematics. A special talk on National Mathematics Day Special Lecture was given by Dr.S.Jagatheswari, Assistant Professor, Department of Mathematics, School of Advanced Sciences, Vellore Institute of Technology, Vellore to motivate the students.
- A workshop on Mathematical Modeling in Business Decision Making was conducted by Dr.P.Mariappan, Associate Professor & Head, PG & Research Department of Mathematics, Bishop Heber College, Trichy on 27.12.2021.
- A FDP cum Workshop was organized in Implementation of Outcome Based Curriculum Framework with Dr.N.Muthumani, Principal, PPG College of Arts and Science, Coimbatore as Resource person on 27.01.2022.
- National Science day was celebrated on 28.02.2022.
- A two day workshop on Python with MATH was organized for our PG students on 04.04.2022 & 05.04.2022 and Dr.V.Parthiban, Assistant Professor – Grade 2, VIT University was the Resource person.
- Ramanujan Association activities was inaugurated on 25.07.2020 with an Inspirational Speech on Fundamentals of Linear Algebra by Dr.M.Azhagappan, HOD, Department of Mathematics, Controller of Examinations, Yadava College, Madurai.
- An Orientation Programme, was organized for I B.Sc Mathematics students was conducted from 24.08.2020 to 28.08.2021.
- An IDP - Webinar on "Applications of Geogebra - A FOSS " was conducted by Dr.A.Sukesh, Assistant Professor , Government College of Engineering , Kannur, Kerala under DBT Star College Scheme for the benefit of our UG students on 15.10.2020.
- A FDP - Webinar on "Introduction to SPSS" was conducted by Dr.R.Ravanan Regional Joint Director, Chennai Region, Chennai under DBT Star College Scheme for the benefit of our college faculty members on 20.10.2020.
- 133rd Birth Anniversary of Srinivasa Ramanujan celebrated as Ramanujan Day on 22.12.2020. Various competitions were conducted through online for the students to exhibit their talents in Mathematics. A special talk was given by Dr.T.Gavaskar , Assistant Professor, Department of Mathematics, Central university of Tamilnadu Thiruvarur on Ramanujan history to motivate the students.
- An extension activity was carried out on , "Special Talk on Prevention and Safety Measures during COVID -19", by our faculty Mr.M.Uthyakumar on 18.02.2021. Also we donated the needy things, for the 27 inmates of Tamilnadu Association for Blind , Perundurai.
- A Faculty Development Programme on "Learning Outcome Based Education Curriculum Frame Work" by Dr. M. G. Sethuraman Professor of Chemistry & Director (R&D) The Gandhigram Rural Institute (Deemed to be University) Gandhigram, Dindigul was Jointly organized with IQAC under DBT Star College Scheme for the benefit of our college faculty members on 20.02.2021.

- An extension activity was carried out on "Basic Awareness on Higher Education" as a tribal welfare programme to the Tribal Students, Donbosco School, Kadambur under DBT Star College Scheme on 22.03.2021. Also stationary things were donated for their benefits of Education.

- A Guest lecture Programme on "Applications of Abstract Algebraic Structure" was conducted by Dr.N.Annamalai, Assistant Professor, Department of Mathematics, Central University of Tamilnadu, Thiruvarur for the benefit of our Under Graduate students on 13.08.2019.
- A Guest Lecture cum Workshop on " Mathematical Softwares" was organized for the M.Sc Students on 19.09.2019 –21.09.2019 by Mr.S.Alagupandi and Mr.C.Surendar, Technical Head - Training , Aakkam Industrial Training and Research Institute, Coimbatore
- A Guest lecture Programme on "Discrete Mathematical Structure" was conducted by Dr.V.Swaminathan, Assistant Professor, Discrete Mathematics Laboratory , Srinivasa Ramanujan School of Mathematics, Sastra University of Kumbokonam for the benefit of our Under Graduate students on 23.09.2019.
- A Guest lecture Programme under Math Club on "Vedic Mathematics Made Easy" was conducted by Dr.B.Amudhambigai , Assistant Professor, Department of Mathematics , Sri Sarada College for Women , Salem on 25.09.2019.
- A Guest lecture Programme on "Introduction to Soft Computing" was conducted by Dr.U.S.Ragupathy , Professor and Head, Department of EIE , Kongu Engineering College, Perundurai for the benefit of our Math Club students on 09.01.2020.
- A three day Workshop cum Guest Lecture under DBT Star College Scheme on " GNU OCTAVE " was organized for the II B.Sc Students on 21.01.2020 – 23.01.2020 by Ms.C.Sandhiya and Ms.S.Alagu Selvi, Software Trainers, Coimbatore.
- A Workshop cum Hands on training on "Math with Python (Hands on Training", was organized for our M.Sc Students on 14.02.2020 -15.02.2020 was conducted by Mr. Sundeep Kumar Agarwal ,Technical Consultant , Salem.
- 132nd Birth Anniversary of Srinivasa Ramanujan as National Mathematics Day (Ramanujan Day) on 04.01.2020. Various competitions were conducted for the students to exhibit their talents in Mathematics. Dr.G.K.Revathi, Assistant Professor, Mathematics Division, School of Advanced Sciences, VIT, Chennai Mathematics, motivated the students.
- Various competitions were conducted for the Math Club students to exhibit their talents in Mathematics on 14.02.2020 and 15.02.2020.
- All the pre final year UG and PG Students were gone through teaching practice in their nearby Schools, during summer vacation, and all the First Year UG students have attended the classes in Type Writing Institutes.
- Ramanujan Association activities was inaugurated on 17.07.2018 with an inspirational speech by Mr.S.Balaji, Managing Director, Principal Consultant Point blank, Business consulting Pvt Ltd, Erode.
- An Orientation Programme was organised for I B.Sc Mathematics students on 18th & 19th July 2018 and was conducted by Mr.R.Raja, Soft Skills Helikx HR training and Business Consulting, Erode.
- As an extension activity, II M.Sc Students taught the concept of Mathematics, donated the needy things,conducted games and distributed prizes for the children of Panchayat Union Primary School Semman Kulikattu Valasu at Avalpoondurai on 02.08.2018.
- A visit to Erode Book Festival 2018 was arranged for the final year UG and PG Students to enrich their reading habit on 10.08.2018.
- A Personality Development Programme was organized for our III B.Sc Students on 13.08.2018 and 16.08.2018 by Mr.R.Mohanraj and V.Anusuya Priyadharshini, Trainers, Soft Skills, Erode.
- A Guest lecture Programme on "Applications of Eulerian and Hamiltonian Graph" was conducted by Dr.K.Muthuguru Packiam, Assistant Professor, Department of Mathematics, Rajah Serfoji Government College, Thanjavur for the benefit of our Under Graduate students on 07.09.2018.
- Intercollegiate Meet - TRAZE' 18 was organized on 19.09.2018 in which around 300 students from various Institutions participated. Dr. R. Murugesu, Associate Professor and Head, Department of Mathematics , Sri Ramakrishna Mission Vidyalaya College of Arts and Science, Coimbatore addressed the gathering.
- An Industrial Visit was arranged to Coorg Commodities, Coorg and Karnataka from 21.09.2018 to 22.09.2018 for the students.
- A Guest Lecture cum Workshop on "Applications of Latex Softwares" was Organized for the M.Sc Students on 10.10.2018 –11.10.2018 by Dr.R.Suresh, Associate Professor, Department of Mathematics, Veltech University ,Avadi, Chennai.
- A two day Workshop on "OCTAVE - A SCIENTIFIC PROGRAMMING LANGUAGE" was organized for the II B.Sc Students on 17.12.2018 – 18.12.2018 by Mr.S.Parthiban, Assistant Professor, Bishop Heber College (Autonomous), Trichy.
- 131st Birth Anniversary of Srinivasa Ramanujan as Ramanujan Day on 29.12.2018. Various competitions were conducted for the students to exhibit their talents in Mathematics. Dr.D.Narasimhan, Associate Professor, Department of Mathematics, Srinivasa Ramanujan Centre , Sastra University , Kumbakonam, motivated the students.

Dr.M.Eswaramurthi, Professor and Head, Department of Mathematics Vellalar College of Engineering and Technology, Erode, motivated the students.
- A State Level Workshop on "Statistical Analysis Using R software", was organized for our I B.Sc Students on 15.02.2018 for 61 participants from various colleges on 16.02.2018 and was conducted by Dr. V.Gnanaraj , Associate Professor, Thiagarajar College of Engineering, Madurai.
