About the Department
The Department of Costume Design & Fashion is a world where art meets business, dream meets reality. Started in the year 1996, it offers an opportunity to the students where fame & fortune come soaring on the wings of imagination, innovation and enterprise. The academics and practical are taught in such a way to enable the students to keep pace with the process of modernization and up-gradation of techniques in the textile industry. It aims to produce highly skilled manpower to create myriad patterns in the clothing industry.

- Workshop on Fashion Illustration was organized from on 21.09.2023 to 22.09.2023. The Resource Person for this Programme was Mr.D.Rajaram, Art Teacher and Founder of ACMC Art Studio, Salem.

- Fashion Gala’23 – Designer contest was organized on 03.03.2023 at UVS Hall. Mr. P.Jishnu Krishnan, Fashion Designer Chennai, Mr.F.Farzeen Khan, Model & Stylist, Kerala and B.Shalini, Fashion Runway Model, Chennai acted as Judges for the show.
- Five Days Virtual Faculty Development Programme for the faculty members of various institutions was conducted on the topic 'Global Vision Of Textile and Garment Industry 2021' from 15.07.2021 to 20.07.2021.
- The Department Association Inauguration cum National Handloom Day Celebration was organized on 07.08.2021. A webinar on the topic 'Handlooms of India' was conducted by Dr.C.Prakash, Director, Indian Institute of Handloom Technology,Ministry of Textiles, Govt. of India, West Bengal, India through virtual mode.
- A One Day International Level Virtual Workshop on "Fashion Drapery Elements on Dress Form" on 09/10/2021. The Resource Person for this workshop was Dr.Maryna Kisil, Docent, Department of Design of Textiles and Clothes, Kharkhiv State Academy of Design and Arts, Ukraine.
- Two Days National Level Virtual Workshop on "Advanced Fashion Illustration Techniques" was organized on 27/10/2021&28/10/2021. The Resource Person for this workshop was Ms.Dhanya Namboothiri, Fashion Designer, Freelance Surface Pattern Designer & Illustrator, Mumbai.

- An Orientation Programme for I year UG students was conducted on 24/08/2020 through online mode. Mr.S.Ranganathan, General Manager, Coats India (A division of Madura Coats), Ambasamudram addressed the students on the Topic 'Insights of Textile and Fashion Industry 4.0'.
- An Orientation Programme on 'Career Paths in Fashion Industry' for I year UG students was conducted on 26/08/2020 through online mode. Ms.Bharathi Selvam, Founder of Self n Shelf (Alumna of 2000-2003 Batch), Psychologist, Business consultant (specialized for clothing sector), HRD Trainer, NLP Practitioner, Mayiladuthurai was the Resource person.
- The Department Association Inauguration 2020-2021 and Live Skill Development Workshop on 'The Art of Decoupage' for UG and PG students were conducted through online mode on 16/07/2020. Ms.G.Vasumati, Assistant Professor, Department of Costume Design and Fashion, NIFT-TEA College of Knitwear fashion, Tirupur was the Resource person.
- A Guest Lecture programme on 'Fundamentals of Spinning' for our II and III UG and II PG students was conducted through online mode on 12/09/2020. Mr.S. Karuppusamy, Sales Manager, Rieter India Pvt. Ltd., Coimbatore acted as the Resource person.
- A Career Guidance Programme – Alumni Students Interaction for UG and PG students was conducted on 19/09/2020 through online mode. Mr.P. Jishnu Krishnan, Freelance Stylist and Designer (Alumnus of 2015-2018 Batch) was the Resource person. During the session, he shared his Post Graduate Learning Experience Abroad and elaborated on Fashion styling.
- An Orientation Programme on 'Career Options in Fashion Industry' for I year PG students was conducted on 21/11/2020 through online mode. Ms.R.Radhika (Alumna of 2001-2004 Batch), Manager, Production Control Unit, Linea Fashion India Pvt. Ltd, Sri Lanka was the Resource person.
- A Guest lecture (An Inter-disciplinary Programme) on 'Medical textile' was organized in collaboration with Department of Bio-technology of our college on 18.03.2021 through online mode. Mr.P.Suresh Ram, Partner, Care 4 U India Pvt. Ltd, Tirupur was the Resource person.

- Intra talent competitions were conducted for our department student on 23/09/2019 to exhibit their talents.
- Industrial visits to Adhya exports, Tirupur, Sri Velan spinners, Vellakovil, Meera creations, Perumanallur were arranged for our students to enrich their knowledge in the field of textiles and fashion.

- Fashion Gala 2020 (Designer Contest) was conducted on 15.02.2020 to bring out the talents of our UG students and the judges invited were Ms.Swetha Raghul, Fashion Style Curator/ Entrepreneur, Coimbatore and Ms.M.Santhini, Pallavaa Group, Erode.
- A Workshop on "Digital Marketing" for our final year UG and PG students was conducted by M/s. Accent Techno Soft, Coimbatore on 17/02/2020.
- An industrial visit was organized for II UG students to soap manufacturing unit – Star chemicals & Weaving unit – Parameshwari textiles, Erode on 24/02/2020.
- Alumni interactive session for UG and PG students was conducted by our alumni Mr.Rathesh Ragunathan, Senior Manager – Garment division, Grupokaybee, Peru, South America through online mode (ZOOM) on 29/05/2020.
- Department has organized a webinar on "Challenges in Personal Protective Clothing" by a resource person Dr.V.R.Giridev, Professor and Head, Department of Textile Technology, Anna University, Chennai on 31/05/2020.

- 'Workshop on Fashion Sketching' was conducted by Mr.T.Rajaram, Wings Academy, Salem on 18.07.2018 and 19.07.2018 for I UG and I PG students.
- The Department of Costume Design and Fashion celebrated the National Handloom Day on 07.08.2018. On this eve, two days exhibition cum sale was organised on 06.08.2018and 07.08.2018 along with the Department of Handloom and Textiles, Erode. Mr.S.Sakthivel, Textile Control Officer, O/o Assistant Director of Handlooms and Textiles, Erode was invited as the Chief Guest.
- A Visit to the Tex Valley, "Craft Bazaar", Erode was arranged for all UG and PG girls on 11.08.2018.
- Extension Activity - Sowing Neem and Palm Seedlings at check dams situated in Perumpallam Odai in collaboration with Olirum Erodu Foundation was carried out on 11.08.2018 by the UG and PG Boys.
- Two days Workshop on Fabric and Glass Painting for first year UG students was held on 23.08.2018 and 24.08.2018 conducted by Ms.Rama Rajesh, Artist and Designer Palettez, Art and Craft Academy, Tirupur.

- A Visit to the Tex Valley, "Weaves – South India's Premier Textile Fair", Erode was arranged for final UG and PG students on 07.12.2018.

- A Guest Lecture on Apparel Costing for final year UG and PG students was held on 08.02.2019 conducted by Mr. Satheesh Kumar, General Manager, Cherish Knits, Kangeyam.
- Awareness programme on Fashion CAD was conducted for UG & PG final year students on 07.07.2017 by Speed Step Software Solutions, Coimbatore.
- An Industrial Visit to the Textile Market, "Weave Tex Tech" – Grand Weaving, Garment Machineries, Accessories & Textiles expo in Tex Valley, Erode was arranged for all UG and II PG students on 08.07.2017.
- Orientation Programme for First year UG and PG students was conducted by Mr.K.R.Ashok, National Trainer in ABLE Gurukulam, Erode on 18.07.2017.
- Demonstration on Usha Sewing Machine for final year UG and all PG students was held on 28.07.2017 by Mr.S.Balaji, Senior Sales Officer, Usha International Ltd., Coimbatore.
- Workshop for Industrial Sewing Machines for final year UG and all PG students was held on 28.07.2017 conducted by Mr.Mohan, Swastik Agencies, Erode.
- The Department of Costume Design and Fashion has conducted the National Handloom Day celebrations on 07.08.2017 for all UG and II PG students and the chief guests invited were Mr.R.Chandran, (Assistant Director, Textiles Committee), Mr.S.Sakthivel, (Handloom Officer, O/o Assistant Director of Handlooms and Textiles) and Mr.C.Karunakaran, (Assistant Manager (Commercial), National Handloom Development Corporation Ltd., Erode).
- 'Fashion Sketching Workshop' was conducted by Mr.T.Suresh, Senior Technical Associate, Dept. of Apparel and Fashion Design, NIFT-TEA College of Knitwear Fashion, Tirupur on 10.08.17 and 11.08.2017 for I UG and I PG students.
- Fashion Zingaro'17 - Inter Collegiate Meet was held on 17.08.2017 and the judges were Mr. Gokul Ravindramohan (Professional Model, Tom Discontented, Chennai & Bengaluru) and Mr.C.Thiagarajan (Freelance Fashion Photographer & Creative Designer, Ooty).
- An Industrial Visit to Fashion Knits, Angeripalayam, Tirupur was arranged for I UG students on 06.01.2018.
- An Industrial Visit to Lucky Yarn Tex India Private Limited, Veppadai was arranged for II UG students on 06.01.2018.
- A Guest Lecture on "Research Methodology" was conducted by Dr.K.Ponappa, Associate Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Kongu Engineering College, Perundurai on 08.01.2018 for PG students.

- Fashion Gala -2018, Designer Contest was held on 31.01.2018 and the Judges were Dr. Sudha Anand, Director of BKS Textiles (P) Ltd, and Ms.Mathivathana, Proprietor, Bougainvilea, Erode.
- Two days Hands on Training Programme on "Surface Ornamentation in Aari Work Embroidery" for interested UG and PG students was organized on 12.02.2018 and 13.02.2018 by Ms.K.Jayanthi, Director, Premier Fashions, Coimbatore
