• The DEPARTMENT ASSOCIATION INAUGURATION (Creauctus-2023-24’) and SPECIAL PLENARY SESSION on “Bioinformatics Based Approaches for Novel Drugs Against Emerging Infectious Diseases” was held on 02.08.2023. Resource person: Dr.Sinosh Skariyachan, Assistant Professor, Department of Microbiology, St.Pius X College, Rajapuram, Kannur University, Kasargod, Kerala. The students gained knowledge on pivotal role played by Bioinformatics in catering to the societal needs and also the benefits of adapting to Bioinformatics research.
• An ORIENTATION PROGRAMME on “Let Us Begin” for I B.Sc Biotechnology Students was held on 08.08.2023. Mr. L. Jagadesh and JMF. K. Madhumitha, National trainers, JCI INDIA acted as Resource persons and emphasized the importance of goal setting, self belief and wise usage of technologies and motivate the students upon team work and creative thinking.
• CAREER GUIDANCE PROGRAMME on “Interview Planning and Preparation” was organized for III UG and II PG Biotechnology students on 15.09.2023. Resource Person: Dr.K.Mangayarkarasi, Director - RVS Training Academy, RVS College of Arts and Science, Sulur, Coimbatore. She enlightened the students regarding career opportunities in the field of Biotechnology and trained the students in adopting the tactics to develop their potential to meet the industrial needs.
• Faculty Development Programme on “Virtual Lab-Learner’s Perspective” was organized by DBT Star Departments (Biochemistry, Biotechnology and Physics) for faculties on 19.09.2023. Resource Person: Mr.Saneesh.P.F, Project Manager, VALUE Virtual Labs, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Amritapuri, Kollam, Kerala and Ms.Nijin, Research Associate, Amrita Virtual Lab, Amrita Mind Brain Centre, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Amritapuri, Kollam, Kerala. The Programme helps to provide remote-access to simulation-based Labs in various disciplines of Science courses. To enthuse students to conduct experiments by arousing their curiosity. This would help them in learning basic and advanced concepts through remote experimentation.
• A GUEST LECTURE on “Aerobiology: A Discipline to see the unseen” was organized for students of Biotechnology on 27.09.2023. Resource Person: Dr.N.K.Udayaprakash, Professor, Department of Biotechnology, Vels Institute of Science, Technology and Advanced Studies, Chennai. He showcased the practical applications of aerobiology in understanding air quality, allergen distribution, and microbial ecology and he introduced the concept of “Biosoot” which represents a novel contribution to the field.
• A WORKSHOP on “Databases and Tools in Bioinformatics” was held on 04.10.2023. Resource Person: Dr.S.Sivashankari, Associate Professor and Head, Department of Bioinformatics, Nirmala College for Women, Coimbatore. The students gained knowledge about the effective utilization of bioinformatics tools.
• A WORKSHOP on “ELISA and Gel Documentation System” was held on 18.12.2023. Resource Person: Dr. S. The Resource Persons demonstrated the principle and procedure for detection of antigen and antibodies by using ELISA and capturing of images by Gel Documentation System.

The students of our college demonstrated different types of tasks to strengthen the positive learning environment for the school students.
• A One Day WORKSHOP entitled “Valued Added Millet Based Bakery Products Production” was arranged for the UG students of Biotechnology and Catering Science and Hotel Management on 20.02.2024. Resource person: Ms. Dr.P.SATHIYA MOORTHI, Chief Executive Officer, Moon Foods, Tiruchengode. The workshop provided a valuable learning experience, offering practical knowledge and skills in the production of millet-based bakery products.

The objective of the Guest Lecture was to give a brief introduction to IPR and to explain the various related terms such as copyrights, patents, etc
• Science Model Exhibition on “Wealth out of Waste” (National Science Day Celebration) was organized by Department of Biotechnology for Students of DBT Star College Scheme Departments on 27.02.2024. The students exhibited their models with innovated ideas and the best performed students had won the prizes.
• Hands on Training Programme in “Lab Safety Rules for Laboratory Technicians” was organized by Department of Biotechnology for Laboratory Technicians of DBT Star Departments on 29.02.2024. The talk focused on the importance of safety procedure to be followed during the experimental performance. This Hand on Training opened a new vision of safety practices to all participants.

The speaker motivated the students to develop their Interpersonal Skills besides other Soft Skills i.e., Time Management, Presentation Skills and Team Work.
• FACULTY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME on “Deciphering Manuscript Writing” was organized for faculties of all Departments was organized on 04.01.2023. • SPECIAL TALK CUM WORKSHOP on “Chromatographic Techniques” was organized for I B.Sc and I M.Sc Biotechnology students on 15.02.2023. Resource person: Dr.V.S.Pragadheesh, Scientist, CSIR- Central Institute of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants, Bengaluru. The students gained knowledge on separation of compounds by using Chromatographic Techniques.
• SPECIAL LECTURE on “Recent Advances in Medical Oncology Therapy and Treatments” was organized for B.Sc and M.Sc Biotechnology students on 17.02.2023. Resource person: Dr. K. Ashok Kumar, Associate Professor, Department of Biotechnology, Vels Institute of Science, Technology and Advanced Studies, Chennai. The Resource Person explained the various procedures and recent therapies that are followed for the cancer treatment patients.
• WORKSHOP on “Downstream Processing” was organized I B.Sc and I M.Sc Biotechnology students on 21.02.2023 and 22.02.2023. Resource person: Dr.C.Kanagaraj, Director, Methion Biotech Private Limited, Rathinam Techzone, Eachanari, Coimbatore. The Resource Person demonstrated Fermentor techniques and encouraged the students to share their views on SDS PAGE and Fermentor and provided us with extensive knowledge on the subject. He stressed the scope and uses of PCR and technology transfer and recent advances in the field of biotechnology.
• SCIENCE MODEL EXHIBITION on “Scientific Innovation for Sustainable Living” was organized for the students of DBT Star College Scheme Departments on 24.02.2023.The students exhibited their models with innovated ideas and the best performed students had won the prizes.
• EXTENSION ACTIVITY – OUTREACH PROGRAM was organized for the students of Government Primary School- Periyavalasu on 09.03.2023. The Government Primary School Students were energetic and interactive in all the sessions. They actively participated in the competitions and were rewarded with prizes.
• MILLET FAIR – CUM EXPO -2023” was organized by Department of Biotechnology on 06.04.2023. The students of the Department of Biotechnology displayed 20 stalls and sold varieties of healthy Home-made food products like Millet vadai, Ragi halwa, Kambu samosa, Varagu smoothie, etc. The winners of the Best three stalls based on the fixed criteria are awarded with prizes.

• Inauguration of Creauctus Association Activities 2021 – 2022 and a Guest Lecture on "Current Trends in Biophysics" for B.Sc Biotechnology Students was held on 20.09.2021. Resource person: Dr.M.N.Ponnusamy, UGC Emeritus Professor, Department of Biophysics and Crystallography, University of Madras, Chennai, handled the session and briefly elaborated the concept of Nanoscience was introduced to students which will help them for the further analysis and characterization of nanoparticles.
• Extension Activity – Awareness Program on Breast Cancer was held on 25.10.2021. Department of Biotechnology has arranged for a Public awareness program on Breast Cancer. October has been designated as a Pink month to raise awareness on Breast cancer. As an initiative B.Sc., Biotechnology students on 25.10.2021, went to Nasiyanur Panchayat for educating Women on early identification, signs and symptoms of Breast Cancer.
• Alumni Interaction - CreauMeet -2021 was held on 30.10.21. Department of Biotechnology has arranged for an "Alumni Interaction - CreauMeet -2021" for UG Biotechnology Students. The interaction session was between Alumni of 2020 and 2021 and current UG Students. During the session the Alumni shared their experience of getting into higher education, the scope of placement and entrepreneurship.
• One Day Workshop on Fermentor Handling was held on 30.10.2021. Department of Biotechnology has arranged for a One Day Workshop on Fermentor Handling for III UG Biotechnology Students. The workshop focused on the Principle, Parts, Working and Applications of Fermentor in production of Industrial Products.
• Outreach Activity – Teaching by Taught – (To Infuse Science Temperament among Orphanage Students) was held on 03.11.2021. Department of Biotechnology has arranged for an Outreach Activity to Infuse Science Temperament among Orphanage Students. The Student representatives from B.Sc Biotechnology were taken to Tirupur Social Service Organization (TISSO), Tirupur to educate the significance of Science among Secondary and Higher Secondary Orphan Students.
• Interdisciplinary Webinar on "Gynecological concerns in Young Adults" for girl Students of all Departments was held on 03.11.2021. Resource Person: Dr.K.Anupriya MBBS., MD (OG)., from PSG Institute of Medical Science and Research, Coimbatore handled the session and she highlighted on various Gynecological problems like Ovarian cysts, Pelvic pain, Endometriosis, Uterine fibroids, Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), Genital tract infections and Sex education.
• Hands on Training in "Laboratory Instrumentation" was held on 18.11.2021. Resource Person: Mr.A.P.Thangadurai, Proprietor,The Scientific Engineering Works, Coimbatore. Students were able to get knowledge about instrument handling in an exciting manner. Workshop focused on the usage of instruments like Microscope, Autoclave, Incubator, Hot air oven, Centrifuge, Magnetic stirrer and its applications in Biotechnology field. The Workshop increases the skill of handling laboratory instruments.
• One Day Workshop on "Invitro Culture of Animal Cells and its Applications" was held on 22.11.2021. Resource Person: Dr. Thamaraiselvan Rengarajan, Scientist, Scigen Research and Innovation Pvt. Ltd., Thanjavur. Students were able to obtain knowledge about culturing of Animal cells in an exciting manner.
• Students Presentation Competition was held on 14.12.2021. The World Energy Conservation Day was celebrated on 14.12.2021. On this occasion, the Students participated and presented innovative ideas about the Energy Conservation, Global Warming and Ecosystem.
• Educational Visit - 28.12.2021 - SPAC Starch Products (India) Ltd., Anthiyur. It helped students to get an exposure of industrial experience. They gained knowledge about the extraction of Starch from Tapioca and Maize and its utilization as a byproduct in Pharma and Food sectors.
• Webinar cum Virtual Workshop on ''Microbial Identification and Genomics'' was held on 28.01.2022. Resource Person: Dr.Prasanth Manohar, Post Doctoral Fellow, Zhejiang University- University of Edinburgh Institute (ZJE), Zhejiang University School of Medicine, China. The students gained knowledge about the history of the Corona viruses, types of Corona viruses and its mode of infection.
• Farm Visit to RR Aqua Industries, Modakurichi – 22.02.2022. In this visit, students learnt about the manufacturing of Aqua water. The officials in the industries gave a detailed explanation about the purification of water.
• An Extension activity on "Awareness and Prevention of Dengue Fever" was held on 22.02.2022. The presentation given by Dr.S.K.Gangai Abirami on awareness and prevention of Dengue Fever was informative and also applicable in day today life style. Also Ms.Srimathi Snekha of III BSc Biotechnology explained the importance of Medicinal Plants using PPT and chart works. The students of Government Boy's Higher Secondary School interacted well and raised questions on the topics and were clarified. Various competitions like Debate and Quiz were conducted among the students and were rewarded with prizes.
• A One Day Workshop on "Food Packaging: Quality Control and Safety Considerations" was held on 24.02.2022. Resource Person: Mr. Sathish Chandrasekaran, Excutive Chef, CAG Pride,Coimbatore. In this Workshop, Sathish Chandrasekaran highlighted about the Food Packaging Techniques and the parameters to be considered during packaging.
• A Two Day Hands on Workshop on "Analysis of Secondary Metabolites and Histochemical Screening Techniques" was held on 25.02.2022 and 26.02.2022. Resource Person: Dr. A. Lakshmi Prabha, Professor and Head, Department of Botany,Barathidasan University, Trichy. In this Workshop, Dr. A. Lakshmi Prabha highlighted about the History and scope of the Plant tissue culture. She gave a detailed explanation about the Plant growth regulators and its function. Resource Person: Dr.V. Nandhagopalan , Vice Principal and Associate Professor, National College, Trichy. In this Workshop, Dr.V. Nandhagopalan highlighted about the scope and uses of Histochemistry and the recent advancements in the field of Biotechnology.

• A Webinar on Molecular Tools for the Effective Diagnosis of COVID 19 for B.Sc Biotechnology Students was held on 13.05.2020. Resource person: Dr.S.Johnson Retnaraj Samuel, Scientist C, International Research Centre, Sathyabama Institute of Science and Technology, Chennai, handled the session and briefly elaborated on the mechanism that takes place during the time of infection and on molecular tools used for viral diagnosis.

• Faculty Development Program on Learning Outcome- Based Education Curriculum Frame Work was organized for Faculty Members of KASC on 20.02.2021. Resource Person: Dr.M.G.Sethuraman, Professor, Department of Chemistry, Gandhigram Rural Institute, Dindigul. The faculty members were trained with advanced Outcome Based Curriculum Framework.
• Science Fest was organized by DBT Departments on the occasion of National Science Day Celebration for KASC students and various competitions were conducted and the prizes were distributed to the competition winners on 01.03.2021.
• Hands on Training in Clinical Microbiology was organized for II B.Sc Biotechnology students. Resource Person: Ms. P.Kanchana, Microbiology Incharge, Sudha Micro Lab, Erode. The students were given training on Differential media preparation, Pure Culture Techniques, Microbes identification and etc.,
• A Workshop on Food Preservation Technique (An Inter-Disciplinary Program) was jointly arranged by Department of Biotechnology and Catering Science and Hotel Management for II UG Students of various departments. 53 students have participated in the workshop from the Department of Biotechnology, CSHM, BCA, Mathematics, English, B.Com and BBA(CA). • A Guest Lecture on Probiotics was organized for UG Biotechnology Students on 23.03.2021. Resource person: Mr V. Prem Kumar, Senior Executive, Sunsberg Life science Pvt. Ltd. Puducherry. Lecture was given on the isolation of beneficial microbes and its applications in the production of probiotics.
• Extension activity on Awareness on COVID 19 Vaccination was given for General Public of Nanjanapuram Panchayat by Faculty Members and Students of Department of Biotechnology on 24.03.2021. The importance of COVID 19 Vaccination was highlighted. Further the public was insisted to use masks and to maintain social distancing in an effective manner.
